Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.

The pain on the left side of your ribcage could originate from the ribs, the muscle layers in between the ribs or the nerves supplying these muscle layers. As X Rays ruled out fracture, ribs are not the causative factor for your pain. So, the pain seems to be because of any muscle strain/sprain or compression of the intercostal nerves leading to nerve pain.

I would suggest you to start with some anti-inflammatory medicines like Naproxen 250 mg-500 mg twice a day or Ibuprofen 200-400 mg three times a day (provided you are not allergic to them, or have any kidney problems or have any stomach ulcers.) Take these tablets with food as it can cause gastritis when taken on empty stomach. You could also take one tablet of Lansoprazole 30 mg in the morning on empty stomach to prevent gastritis from occurring.

You could also take Paracetamol 500 mg-1000 mg 3-4 times a day (provided you do are not allergic to it and do not have any liver problems). You can combine both the paracetamol and the anti-inflammatory tablets mentioned above.

If the pain is still not settled you could add Gabapentin, start at dose of 100 mg once a day and gradually increase to 100 mg three times a day, further increasing to maximum of 600 mg three times a day. This medicine is helpful for nerve related pain.

As Gabapentin and naproxen are prescription only medicines, you need to see your doctor for them.

I hope this answer has helped you.

Thank you
